Debate: „Challenges that is facing European society – migration" - EU Reflect
Coalition of youth organizations SEGA organized a debate on the topic: „Challenges that is facing European society – migration" - EU Reflect, as part of the project "WISE While Innovating and Strengthening Europe", supported by the Europe for Citizens Program of the European Union in cooperation with ALDA - European Association for Local Democracy, from France and 14 other partner organizations from Europe.
The main aim of the project „WISE” is by use of bottom – up approach and participatory methods to focus on promoting democratic engagement and active citizenship in local and union policy – making.
The debate was attended by 25 students in the high school „Orde Copela” in Prilep, who were debating on the topic: „Challenges that facing European society – migration”. The debate was held in two rounds where the students were presenting their arguments for/against the capacities of EU (institutional and financial) to face the migration crises and positive and negative aspects of receiving and accepting migrants. Also, they were discussing if EU should open the gates for the political and economic migrants.
The debate was aimed at improve the understanding of the youth for EU functioning and current challenges improved, to raise the awareness for the role of civil society, and the tools of its disposal in shaping sustainable and prosper EU societies increased, to raise active engagement of citizens and the organized civil society promoted and to counter narratives about migration in EU countries and to be developed on local level.
Coalition of youth organizations SEGA will continue with organizing this type of workshops in other secondary schools in order to raise awareness and active youth participation in the processes of approximation of the Republic of Macedonia in the EU.
